We can get a sense of John’s childhood from this wonderful collection of photos taken by James Davis during the 1950s and early 1960s, and shared here with the very kind permission of James’ son, Rod.
One of the photos contains James’ shadow, which I think is really beautiful.
The procession featured in this collection took place in the winter (see the lack of leaves on the trees). It is possibly for Remembrance Sunday, but it’s hard to see if the people watching are wearing poppies.
