On March 8, 2020, the Quarrymen invited a small and select audience to the Penny Lane Development Trust for the recording of a new live CD: “The Quarrymen – Live at Penny Lane.”

It was a great day and a real privilege to be invited! But, of course, what made the event even more special and poignant, and which we could not know at the time, was that, just just over two weeks later, on March 23, we would all be ordered into lockdown and there would be no more live music or social gatherings for quite some time.

Looking back, perhaps the beautiful rainbow, that appeared over Penny Lane that day, was a reminder that, despite the dark days to come, they wouldn’t last forever and, in the meantime, we’d have the new CD to make us smile!
